Synopsis[]

While Mr. Pontipine is eating dinner, his moustache flies off and gets stuck to the chimney, then to the bridge, then to the gazebo! It is blown onto the Pinky Ponk and then gets stuck to Mrs. Pontipine!

Plot[]

The Ninky Nonk goes past the Pontipines' House, then the Narrator asks "Who's here?". Three Pontipines (Mr Pontipine, Mrs Pontipine and a child Pontipine) come out of the house, Then the other 7 Pontipines are found. One waving from the window, Two among the stones, and Four jumping into the Teeny-Tiny Hole. Once the children return, the Pink Tittifers sing their song and the Pinky Ponk slowly flies behind the Pontipines' Tree and then the Pontipines' dinner table is shown, set up outside the house. The Pontipines go outside to eat their dinner, but then the wind comes and picks up Mr Pontipine's moustache. The Pontipines freak out as the moustache flies around them. The moustache lands on the chimney and the Pontipine children try to get it down. In an attempt to return the moustache, it flies off again. This time, it flies further away; all the way to the bridge. The Pontipines go to get the moustache, but when they slowly approach the moustache again, the moustache flies off. It flies to the gazebo and lands on it. The Pontipines go from the bridge all the way to the flowerpots. They ride the Ninky Nonk to get to the gazebo. The Ninky Nonk goes up a tree and stops on a branch, close to the gazebo's roof. Mr Pontipine looks at the moustache and it flies off, once again. The Ninky Nonk goes after the moustache, but by the time they are near the Pinky Ponk, they lose track of chasing the moustache, which lands on the Pinky Ponk's propeller. The Ninky Nonk takes the Pontipines home. Mr Pontipine is sad without his moustache. The Pinky Ponk approaches the Pontipines' Tree once again and blows the moustache down to the Pontipines' House. The moustache settles on Mrs Pontipine, which makes it hard for her to see where she is going. Mrs Pontipine eventually gives the moustache back to Mr Pontipine. The children cheer and the parents kiss, which makes the moustache land on Mrs Pontipine again, so they kiss a second time to return it to Mr Pontipine. Then the Pontipines get back to eating their dinner until they go to the dance at the gazebo.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first time
    • The Ninky Nonk stops on a branch.
    • Mr Pontipine is seen without his moustache.
      • This, however, isn't the first time Mr Pontipine's mouth is shown. As in Upsy Daisy's Big Loud Sing Song, Mr Pontipine's moustache slowly starts to detach from his face and part of his mouth is shown (click here)
    • Mr Pontipine's moustache ends up on Mrs Pontipine's face when they kiss.
  • This episode, despite having many absences, includes Makka Pakka, the Wottingers and the Tombliboos as cameos (they are shown on the pictures on the Gazebo.
  • This episode, despite being underrated, has been featured as a story in the 56th issue of In the Night Garden magazine, as well as the moustache itself being featured in several later magazines. For example, this In the Night Garden magazine activity pdf involves matching Makka Pakka's possessions, but the moustache is featured as the "hidden picture to find".
  • It is not exactly mentioned how Mr Pontipine's moustache flew away, but there are some possible reasons why below:
    • Some In the Night Garden books state that the wind blew the moustache away, which could most likely be possible as it did manage to blow away Igglepiggle's blanket and the Tombliboos' trousers.
    • Another possible reason of how the moustache flew away could have been from the Pinky Ponk, as it passed the Pontipines not long before the moustache flew away, as well as blowing the moustache off of its propeller near the end.
    • HyperLaunchDMG states that Makka Pakka blew the moustache away with his Uff-uff, but this can't be possible as Makka Pakka has used the Uff-uff many times on the Pontipines before and he can't blow away the moustache, though he can blow away the ball which is much bigger than the Pontipines.

Goofs[]

  • In the story at the end of the episode,
    • When the bridge was shown, one of the railings on the bridge are missing.
      • This is probably to avoid confusing the viewers of which side the moustache landed on.
    • The moustache is shown to be bigger when the gazebo and chimney were shown.
      • This is because if the animators resized the moustache to the size it was in the episode, it would make it harder to see it.
    • The moustache was positioned incorrectly on all images.
      • This is so not all the frames have to be the same as they were in the episode.
    • Mr Pontipine's moustache has a more "moustache-like" appearance throughout the story, though near the end it returns to the original style.
      • This is because if the moustache was to be removed from the actual vector file of Mr Pontipine, he will not have a mouth, the shadow under his nose cuts off and the dip on top of the moustache (where it clips onto the nose) still remains.
  • When the Ninky Nonk stops on the branch, the scene is flipped and the pictures on the gazebo are flipped over.
  • When the moustache lands on Mrs Pontipine, the "raspberry" sound is out of sync.
  • When Mr Pontipine's moustache first leaves his face, if you look closely at the frames, there is a string pulling the moustache off of Mr Pontipine's face.
  • If you look really closely at the frames when the Ninky Nonk goes up the branch and it shows inside the Pontipine's carriage, one of the frames in the scene show Mr Pontipine with his moustache despite not catching it yet.
